Six-Week-Long Earn-A-Computer Course at St. Louis BWorks

Earn-A-Computer is a hands-on class that introduces young people ages 8-17 to the inner workings and possibilities of computers and the internet — all while getting set to take home a refurbished computer upon successful completion of the course. After completing a consecutive series of six (90-minute) classes digging into everything from online safety to programming and presentation-building, students receive a refurbished computer (desktop/tower), monitor, keyboard, mouse and related equipment.

Students who commit to this series will meet for six Saturday afternoons, beginning each week at 12:30 p.m. (with each class ending at 2 p.m.). The first class meeting is Saturday, March 4, and graduation day (the final class, when students will present what they’ve learned and take their computers home!) will be Saturday, April 8. Students must attend all six consecutive classes to earn their computer.

Classes take place at St. Louis BWorks, located in Soulard at 2414 Menard Street, St. Louis, MO 63104. A parent/guardian must attend the first 15 minutes of the first of the six classes. We also limit each family to two registrants per session (and two computers overall), and students must be between the ages of 8-17.

The operating system we install is Linux Mint OS (not Windows or Mac OS).

Mask wearing remains very appreciated and encouraged inside the BWorks facility, but is not required.
